Benefits of Waterbirth
Pain Relief
Feeling of weightlessness provides comfort and easier mobility
Provides warmth to tense muscles, facilitating relaxation and allowing the uterus to work more efficiently
Allows for increased privacy, so the mother feels less inhibited
Lowers blood pressure
The weight of the water provides counter-pressure, and combined with the moist heat, leads to less perineal tearing.
Creates a gentle transition for the baby
Waterbirth is a wonderful option for childbirth. Many mothers choose to birth in the water, while some prefer to just spend part of their labor enjoying the comfort that the deep water immersion provides. It's often referred to as the "midwives' epidural" because of the pain relief it provides for most women. A waterproof doppler or fetoscope is used so that the mother doesn't need to move from the water to listen to the baby's heart tones during labor.
Cori has a TheraSpa birth tub, as seen below, available for rent to clients in the Dallas area. It has a build-in heater and jacuzzi jets. The tub also comes with a solid locking lid for safety when not in use.
